Kris Kringle Regatta

Hosted by Westlake YC

December 14, 2008

A very cold morning turned into a brisk beautiful day of sailing at Westlake at the Kris Kringle Regatta.  Fleet 43 brought 4 boats, Fleet 2 brought 3 and Fleet 6 brought 2.  As always, Lido sailors were treated with some of the best hospitality possible.  Kris Kringle is the culmination of their Holiday Series which is generously sponsored by the Young family.

Winds almost made it to line up with the main channel but tended to stay a bit south making for typically shifty Westlake conditions. Team Ryan seems to be used to this given the shifty conditions in Alamitos Bay, Team Cantley was also very strong and made a huge recovery in race two. Team Bohman sailed strong but hit a couple of holes and wound up third overall.

Fleet 2 and Fleet 43 have been working with each other since our resurgences four or five years ago. When we get together it's always a great time. After lots of planning, phone calls, poor weather, and life getting in the way of sailing, we finally pulled off an informal team race. We raced it like a fleet race, then tallied the points for designated team members. It was close! Fleet 43 won 42-44.

Fleet 43 was awarded with a goofy bobble head turkey trophy and fleet 2 was awarded a "crying towel", which they hope to swap at Super Bowl Regatta January 25. Fleets 43 and 2 have targeted Kris Kringle for at least the last four years. Ventura also sent Sabot and Laser sailors. It's shifty, sometimes frustrating but a whole lot of fun. Thanks to WYC for the hospitality and hopefully we can add another event to the Lido calendar.
