Wysocki Invitational and Lido 14 District II Championship

On September 28th -29th the Wysocki Invitational
regatta was held at Santa Margarita Lake just to the North of San Luis Obispo.
Santa Margarita Lake is a beautiful lake located in the foothills surrounded by
oak studded shores. The regatta was sponsored by the Morro Bay Yacht Club
and Lido Fleet 59. The regatta was also chosen as the time and place to
race for the District II Championships.
The regatta saw several weather patterns move by, providing for interesting
racing (to say the least). Saturday proved to be a challenge with light
shifty breeze accompanied with slight showers at times. Sunday did prove
better for racing with no drizzle. The Race Committee performed an
awesome job all weekend long (although next time Ron, another quarter in the
wind machine would be appreciated). Eleven Lidos raced for the Wysocki
Memorial regatta with scores being separated in the end for the District II
Champion. Five Gearys and four Daysailers showed up respectively, competing
in close racing. Saturday evening the racers gathered at the campground
for a "burn your own meat" and bring a potluck salad gathering.
In the end Team Jenkins had won the District II Championship and the Lido class,
Team Neiswanger won the Daysailer group and Team Knudson won the Geary class.
As Regatta Chairman there are a few people I need to thank; First and
foremost, Ron Giddings for being the PRO, Skip and Susan Dyke for Race Committee
work, Lex Budge for setting marks and providing fireside entertainment,
John Nugent for Lido Fleet promotions. And Finally all of the sailors who
showed up for the weekend of sailing.
