Notice of
Race
1.
RULES
1.1
The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing
for 2001-2004, the prescriptions of US SAILING; the rules of
each of the classes, the Notice of Race, except as any of
these are changed by the Sailing Instructions, and by the
Sailing Instructions.
2.
ELIGIBILITY
2.1
The following boats are invited to enter:
Ocean
Areas: Schock 35, Schock 40, Santana 30/30, Santana
20
Bay
Area: Harbor 20 A
& B, Lido 14 A & B, and Lehman 12 A & B
For
this regatta only the skipper must be a member of US Sailing
or a recognized club under ISAF.
3.
ENTRY AND ENTRY FEES
3.1
The following entry fees will apply to entries postmarked on
or before February 22, 2003:

The
entry fee includes tickets for Saturday’s dinner based
on the size of the boat. (See Social and Meals
section for number of tickets included per size category of
boat). For
entries postmarked after Feb. 22 a late fee of $20 will

Regatta c/o NHYC, 720 West Bay Avenue, Balboa, CA 92661. Entry fees will not be
returned after February 28, 2003.

5.
REGISTRATION
5.1
A
representative from each boat must register with the regatta
office between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Friday,February 28,
or between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March
1.
6.
SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
6.1
Sailing Instructions will be available upon registration at
the Newport Harbor Yacht Club.
7.
COMPETITOR’S MEETING
7.1
A competitor’s meeting will be held at NHYC on Saturday, March
1 at 9:30 a.m. for the Ocean Areas
and 11:00
a.m.for
the Bay Area.
8.
RACES & RACING AREA
8.1
The Race Committee will attempt to complete five races for
boats of the Schock 40, Schock 35, Santana 30/30, and Santana
20 fleets; six races for boats of the Harbor 20 fleet; and
nine races for boats of the Lehman 12 and Lido 14 fleets. More
races may be scheduled at the discretion of the Race
Committee. The locations of the Ocean Racing Area(s) will be
described in the Sailing Instructions. The designated Ocean
Racing Area for each class will also be described in the
Sailing Instructions. The Harbor 20s, Lido 14s, and Lehman 12s
will race in the Bay Racing Area in the turning basin in front
of Newport Harbor Yacht Club.
9.
COURSES
9.1
The courses to be used will be defined in the Sailing
Instructions.
10.
HAILING
10.1
The Race Committees will hail the sail numbers of OCS boats
after the Starting Signal. In addition, the Race Committee(s)
for the Ocean Race Areas (Schock 35, Schock 40, Santana 30/30,
and Santana 20 Fleets) will use VHF Radios to announce
recalls. It is
still the responsibility of each competitor to ensure proper
starting. The
failure of any boat to hear the hail of some but not all OCS
boats, or the untimely hail of some or all OCS boats shall not
be grounds for granting redress. Additionally, the failure of
equipment either on the Race Committee boat or on a competing
boat shall not be grounds for granting redress.
11.
SHORESIDE ANNOUNCEMENT
11.1
Notice to Competitors, including changes to the Sailing
Instructions, will be posted on the Official Notice Board
located in the main hallway of the Newport Harbor Yacht Club.
Signals made ashore will be displayed from the flagpole on the
deck of NHYC.
12.
SCORING
12.1
The Low-Point Scoring System of Appendix A will apply. Two races completed
shall constitute a series. Each boat’s series
score will be the sum of her scores for all
races.
13.
CLINICS
13.1
There are two seminars scheduled for Friday, February 28.
Ullman Sails, Newport Beach will host a seminar at 2:00 p.m.
The topic will weather and race area conditions. There will
also be a Lido 14 seminar hosted by John Papadopoulos to begin
at 3:00 p.m. The Clinics are open to all entries in the W.D.
Schock Memorial Regatta. The locations of the seminars will be
posted on the Official Regatta Notice Board. Participants are
invited to join us on the deck after the seminars for
refreshments, compliments of the W.D. Schock Corporation and a
chance to talk about your day on the water.
14.
LAUNCHING, MOORING & DOCKAGE
14.1
Competitors will be offered free mooring, rafting, or dry
storage at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club from Feb 24 to March
3. Advance reservations must be made with your entry. For early arrival, or
late departure please contact Bob Ledbetter at
949-673-7730. For
extended stay a fee of $0.40 per foot per day will apply. All boats must
register with the front desk upon arrival, we will make every
effort to accommodate you and your crew. Boats may be launched
by hoist, provided that each boat provides their own
sling.
15.
SOCIAL & MEALS
15.1
Friday:
Seminars presented by Ullman Sails and John Papadopoulos. Light Hors D’oeuvres
compliments of W.D. Schock Corporation
Saturday:
Continental breakfast, included in entry
fee.
Fun,
food, and live entertainment at the Saturday night regatta
party.
