2006 District VI Championships

Hosted by Anacortes YC and Lido 14 Fleet 78

The Lido 14 District VI Championship Regatta was held the weekend of July 20^th and 30^th in Anacortes, WA on Fidalgo Bay. It was hosted by Lido 14 Fleet 78 and the Anacortes Yacht Club. The race committee did an excellent job of getting off seven windward/leeward races with 4 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday.  Anacortes Yacht Club did an amazing job of putting on a salmon dinner Saturday night with all the fixings topped off with strawberries and ice cream with big screen video of the days racing.  The weather brought a little of everything but ended the weekend with beautiful blue skies and wind after an on shore rain delay Sunday morning.

The racing was tight and the competition was tough at the top - with several lead and position changes throughout most races. Out of the seven races, 4 different boats had a first place finish. In the end, Garrett and Ryan Johns from fleet 78 were able to fend of the hard charging Ron and Nicole Runyan from Portland Oregon to retain the district title. Jim and Carolyn Sterner, out of Bainbridge Island, sailed away from the fleet in the final race, and in doing so, grabbed the 3^rd spot from Steve and Ginger Orsini.
