Kent Foster & Pam Fairley WIN Lake Skinner Lido Classics Regatta

A bit late in reporting, but what a GREAT weekend at Lake Skinner.  Every year we take the Lido Classics on a campout regatta and this September we hit Lake Skinner.  All enjoyed the warm temperatures, wide open lake, good wind, and great camp facilities.

Friday night a small group came up early and had a great first night at camp.  We prepared the group site on the water for the weekend fun.  Saturday we woke to several hot air balloons over the lake as racers started to arrive coming from LA to San Diego.

We had 9 boats on the water and pretty much had the entire lake to ourselves.  Race committee had a big pontoon as well as a mark boat with helpers and spectators joining us on the water.  Saturday races started just around 12:30 in a nice 6-9 knots of breeze.  Our friends from down San Diego way started off with a bang as Kent Foster grabbed the First Bullet of the day.

We ran 5 windward leeward races.  As the winds clocked left and built to 10-12, we shifted the course and got in some very competitive and FUN racing.  Kent Foster and Pam Fairley were on fire all day with two seconds and three bullets to stomp the competition in 1st for Saturday.  Tim and Patrick Fuller picked off the other 2 bullets landing them in second for the day (Patrick was the youngest racer on the course at 8? years old I think).  Another junior sailor, Christophe Killian, took home the 3rd place trophy for BYC as he kept his crew (his dad) Chris in line on the race course.  Can I say to Patrick and Christophe…OLYMPIC HOPEFULS !!!

Roger Patterson and grand-daughter Kathy along with the Larkins, showed everyone how it’s done down in San Diego as they rounded out the 4 and 5 spots Saturday.  A great honorable mention to Harry and Nancy Hunz from Big Bear.  Though there first time on a Lido have sailed together round the world in a 32’ boat.

After Racing we headed back to camp and relaxed while our FABULOUS CHEFS prepared an amazing BBQ of ribs, chicken, salads, THE WORKS!  If was the best food ever and we could not have pulled off this event without them.  PLEASE join me in thanks and praise to ALAN, ADA and LISA for putting it all together.

Saturday night was very special as many sailors came from all over and really got to know each other for the first time.  After dinner we had a trophy presentation for Saturday and then sat by the campfire as The Fabulous Nomads Band rocked us into the night.  WHAT A GREAT DAY.

Sunday came early and with it our chefs put out a full delicious breakfast feast.  All pitched in to break camp so we could make it to the lake.  Sunday’s fleet dwindled - only 5 boats hit the lake and only 3 made it to the start line.  BIG CUDO’s to our Friends from San Diego who ALL made it to the line and enjoyed 4 more fun races. Kent and Pam once again dominated with 4 out of 4 bullets as they easily took the day and the Regatta.  CONGRATULATIONS!

The Patterson’s and Larkins battled for second and ended up tied for the day. Roger and Kathy for their commitment to day 2 took second for the regatta and Tom and Debbie Larkin completed the San Diego Sweep for 3rd for the regatta.  For those who want to win a regatta make sure you commit to 2 days of sailing and hit it consistently like our friends down south.

Again with 7 first place finishes and 11 points total for the series congratulations Kent Foster and Pam Fairley.

ALYC and Lido Classics have started a perpetual trophy for our yearly campout and your names will be first on the cup, displayed at the yacht club.
