High Sierra Regatta

Huntington Lake, CA

July 7 & 8, 2007

33 Lido 14s showed up on the starting line on the 54th Anniversary High Sierra Regatta. Conditions were typical for Huntington Lake - winds in the 12 to 4 knot range with warm (air) temperatures and sunny skies. Kurt & Anne Wiese, who won the regatta in 2006, sailed very strongly to win by an 7 point margin.

A special thanks to long distance travelers Jim & Kay Sterner, of Washington, and Bud Temple, of Utah, for taking the time to come sail at the regatta.

In 2006, the contract/lease that regulated water levels on Huntington Lake was up for renewal and it was of great concern that the water levels on Huntington Lake would be allowed to drop significantly. The good news heard this year was that a 50 year lease was signed that ensures maintaining the lake water levels (during the summer months) at historic levels. This was especially reassuring as as water levels at nearby lakes (Shaver, Edison, etc.) are way down due to the very low snow pack from this past winter. Now is a good time to start making wishes for a wet winter.

On an unrelated note, the camping reservation system will be changing this year. Rumor has it that reservations will only be allowed 90 days in advance of arrival.

The official results posted on the Fresno Yacht Club website contained several scoring errors, none of which changed the awards. The results posted below include unofficial corrections to the scoring plus the crew names, where known.
