Super Bowl Regatta
January 28, 2007
Hosted by Anacapa Yacht Club (Oxnard, CA) and Lido 14 Fleet 43
Rain and little wind could not stop fourteen teams from helping Fleet 43 "kick off" its sailing season on Sunday January 28. Seven races were sailed before the wind completely shut off, and as is typical with this event, every race counted. Both Fleets started together and Deke Klatt and Ceal Potts were able to start consistently well and win the A Fleet with 18 points. Team Harris narrowly beat Team Miller to take the B Fleet. What the results don't show is that in every race there was a photo finish with 5 or 6 boats finishing at the same time.... where the last puff came from was often the difference between 3rd and 9th... so if you left your "luck" at home, it was easy to add points to your score with 20 feet to go to the finish.
Mike O'Neill and I were talking after the event and agreed that it is really a compliment to have people outside your local Fleet travel to one of your events. Thanks again to everyone who drove up the coast to sail our short courses... Mark your calendars for next year... this event is always the weekend before the Super Bowl or maybe I should say they always move the Super Bowl to be a week after our event.

Lido 14 Fleet 43 and Anacapa Yacht Club invite you to race in the Super Bowl regatta. This regatta sails many short course races in one afternoon (the last 2 years have seen 10 to 12 races run in less than 4 hours) in the waters right next to the club. This makes for a great opportunity to work on boat handling and starts. Following racing, stay for a bowl of chili and a no host bar.
Registration: Entry forms will be available at Anacapa YC beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday January 28, 2007.
A and B Divisions: If 10 or more boats register, the Fleets will be divided into A and B divisions and Each division will be given their own separate start.
Schedule:
Competitors Meeting: 12:00 p.m. on the deck of Anacapa YC.
First Race: As soon as possible after Competitors Meeting. In other words, try to launch and rig before the competitors' meeting or you will more than likely miss the first race.
Last Race: Unknown but we'll keep an eye on how people are doing so as to time the end of the regatta well.
Entry Fee: For Fleet 43 Members, the entry fee will be your 2007 Lido 14 Fleet/Class dues of $50 plus a $10 hoist fee. For non Fleet 43 Members, the entry fee will be $15, which includes the $10 hoist fee.
Facilities: Anacapa Yacht Club has ample parking and a boat hoist with an external sling for launching boats. The launching fee is included in the entry fee. If you would like to reduce your entry fee by $10, there is a free ramp for launching boats up the road. Contact Eric (see below) for details.
Directions: From North and South, take the 101 Freeway to Victoria Avenue in Ventura. Exit Victoria and head South, approximately 7 miles. After crossing Channel Islands Blvd., the yacht club will be approximately one mile farther on your right hand side. (3821 Victoria Avenue).
