2006 Lido 14 Fleet 1 Championships

Since this year's winners, Kurt & Anne Wiese have won higher honor awards (including their recent win at the District 1 Championships), they won't be carrying the red Lido 14 sail insignia honor award.  They will, however, be honored by having their names engraved on the Fleet 1 Fleet Champion perpetual trophy, a wood framed stained glass red Lido 14 insignia that dates back to 1958, the first year of the Lido 14 class. 

Lido 14 Fleet 1 also honors its top performing B sailor in its Championships by awarding them the Harrowby perpetual trophy.  This year's winners of the Harrowby are the team of Steve Mueller and Iris Asbury of Balboa Yacht Club.

For beach goers, the weather was exceptional.  Hot, sunny, with a light breeze.  With winds averaging about 5mph (gusting to 8!), sailing was tough.  Though there were plenty of wind shifts and puffs to challenge the racers, fortunately they weren't also hit with the heavy tides and boater traffic often encountered in Newport Beach.

Congratulations to Kurt & Anne and a big thanks to all competitors, BCYC, and the regatta volunteers.
